Starvation, next to COVID-19 is a great threat to Sri Lanka. Many Sri Lankans are dependant on so-called day wage jobs. Due to the measures taken to prevent the rapid spread of Corona, many are left without any income. The lives of millions of men, women and children are in danger.
Before the Corona-crisis many of these people worked 6 days a week from sunrise till after dark to feed their families. Still, a lot of them couldn’t afford school for their children. Due to the necessary measures, they can’t work anymore and hunger has become a life-threatening problem.
The situation for abandoned and rejected children is even worse. The Sri Lankan government maintains statistics on them but their existence is a stain of shame and besides not having the funds to help them, most Sri Lankans seem to have a blind eye for the existence of those children.
Besides struggling with circumstances most of us in western countries have more then we need. If you can enjoy all that is good, I hope that reading about the situation of rejected and abandoned children in Sri Lanka, our volunteers and milions of others in Sri Lanka makes you sad, angry or whatever emotion suits you being moved best.
Does reading this make you sad or angry? Then please act and share what you have so we can keep helping those children or maybe do even more!
